Tom Green County is withdrawing from the tax reinvestment zone that supports redevelopment projects in downtown San Angelo. County commissioners voted unanimously to leave the program, which means about $1.15 million a year in tax revenue will remain with the county instead of flowing into the city’s TIRZ fund. County leaders say the money can be used for other budget priorities. The TIRZ will continue operating because the City of San Angelo remains a participant. City officials say the program still helps fund building improvements and redevelopment projects. Property owners within the zone can continue applying for grants through the city’s portion of the fund.
