Governor Greg Abbott has announced 2.5 million dollars in grant funding to expand mobile stroke care units across Texas. The money will go to hospitals in Austin, Houston, and El Paso to help improve emergency stroke treatment. Mobile stroke units are specialized ambulances equipped with CT scanners that allow treatment to begin before patients reach the hospital. State officials say faster treatment can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients. More than 71‑thousand stroke-related hospitalizations were reported in Texas last year. Additional funding is expected to be distributed next year.
