The second phase of the Chadbourne Street reconstruction project in downtown San Angelo is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 5. The City Council has approved a $13.2 million contract with Reece Albert Inc. for work on South Chadbourne Street from Beauregard Avenue to the Loop 306 frontage road. The city also received a $5 million grant to help cover a portion of the project costs.
Phase B will continue the design and style established during Phase A, which reconstructed Chadbourne Street from Beauregard Avenue to the Concho River. The project includes full reconstruction of the roadway, sidewalks and pedestrian infrastructure. Additional improvements will feature decorative lamp posts, benches, bicycle racks and trash receptacles. Intersections and crosswalks will be rebuilt to improve safety and accessibility.
Construction will move forward one section at a time to limit disruptions, and access to businesses will be maintained throughout the project. Work is expected to take about 24 months.
