ASU Baseball Wins Their CWS Opener over Wingate

Angelo State baseball took an early lead and held off Wingate 6-2 in the Rams’ opener of the Division 2 College World Series in Cary, North Carolina. It’s the second time in program history that ASU has won their opener of the D2 College World Series. The game included a one hour and 23-minute weather delay. ASU will play 2 seed Seton Hill tomorrow at 5pm in the winners’ bracket. ASU snapped a 26-inning scoreless in Cary in the first inning with a two-run single by Jordan Williams. Trent Baker ran into trouble in fifth inning and loaded the bases but Carson Childers got a strike out and Childers threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Childers improved to 8-0. The Rams’ Jackson Hardy had three hits, scored three runs and stole two bases. If the Rams win tomorrow vs Seton Hill, they’re guaranteed a spot in the national semifinals.
