Menard ISD Warns Parents About Viral ‘Cat in the Hat’ Social Media Challenge

Menard ISD is warning parents and students about a viral social media trend known as the “Cat in the Hat” challenge. School officials say some online posts tied to the trend include references to specific schools, neighborhoods and individuals, creating unnecessary fear and potential safety concerns. Superintendent Amy Bannowsky says the district is working with law enforcement regarding recent posts and is taking all reports seriously. Students are being urged not to share personal information online, follow instructions from strangers or repost threatening content. The district is also encouraging anyone who receives a direct threat to immediately notify a parent, school official or law enforcement agency. Administrators say it’s always better to report a concern, even if it ultimately turns out to be harmless.
