Angelo State University’s chemistry and biochemistry programs have been awarded $165,000 by the Welch Foundation, which will be used to support student and faculty research.
According to the school, it will receive $55,000 a year for the next three years from the Houston-based foundation’s Departmental Research Grant Program.
The funding will be used to support a variety of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry’s activities, including:
Quality hands-on research opportunities for undergraduate students
Student Welch Scholarships
Faculty research in their respective fields of interest
Recruiting highly-motivated students
Attracting additional funding sources for research and equipment
The department also encourages its students to participate in faculty-mentored research projects and take them on the road, travelling to regional and national meetings to present their findings, which department chair Kyle Beran said creates a unique experience for students.
