Pink flamingos will soon be popping up all over town as part of Open Arms Rape Crisis Center and LGBT+ Services’ Flamingo Flocking fundraiser. Beginning October 8th, San Angeloans can pay to have their friends’ and families’ yards “flocked” with plastic flamingos. Packages range from $20 to $50 and, with exception of apartments, can be used on both homes and businesses. Those who wish to avoid the kitschy pink birds can purchase AntiFlocking Insurance for $10. The event, which runs through October 22, will raise funds for Open Arms’ yearly operating budget. The agency hopes to bring in $8,000. To nominate a home or business for flocking or to purchase anti-flocking insurance, interested parties should reach out to an Open Arms board member or visit www.openarmscv.org/flockit. Open Arms Rape Crisis Center and LGBT+ Services is a non-profit agency providing victim advocacy and prevention education to the 170,000 residents of Tom Green and its ten surrounding counties.
