New high blood pressure guidelines were recently published by the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology. Officials of San Angelo Community Medical Center say that under the new guidelines what was termed the higher end of normal blood pressure before now, is now considered stage 1 hypertension or high blood pressure disease. They are urging persons to take active steps to control their blood pressure. High blood pressure is the second-largest cause of preventable heart disease and stroke, second only to smoking. Community medical Officials discussed the change yesterday for reporters.
