The UIL, the governing body of high school sports in Texas, announced the enrollment of every high school in the state and the cutoff for each conference, and Lake View high school is dropping down from 5A to 4A starting in the fall of 2018. The Chiefs were 86 students below the cutoff to stay as a 5A program. For the last four seasons, Lake View has faced football teams with twice the numbers as Lake View. There are 183 schools in the state in class 4A, and the Chiefs will be one of 93 schools to play 4A Division I football. Lake View could be in the same district in football with any of the following schools: Brownwood, Big Spring, Andrews, Lampasas, Stephenville, Canyon, San Elizaro and Mountain View.
