Colleyville Heritage high school shortstop, Bobby Witt Jr, was named the Gatorade Male High School Athlete of the Year. Witt Jr won a state championship in June with Colleyville Heritage, graduated with a 4.0 GPA and was drafted #2 overall by the Kansas City Royals. Bobby Witt Sr pitched 16 years, 11 of those seasons with the Texas Rangers and he won 142 games in his career. Witt Jr hit 482 with 15 homers for Heritage and only made one error all season. Witt Jr was the second-best draft prospect at shortstop since 1987, behind only Alex Rodriguez.
