Super Regional Tickets On Sale Wednesday Morning

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday morning at 10am for the South Central super regionals at Angelo State this week. The Rams will host Colorado Mesa in a best of three game series at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. Game one is Friday at 7pm; game two is Saturday at 3:30 followed by game three, if necessary, at 7pm on Saturday. The winner of the series goes to the College World Series in North Carolina. Every game is on 100.1 COOL-FM.

Lombard Steps Down From Wall Girls Basketball

The head coach of Wall girls basketball program, Tate Lombard, will step down and join his dad as an assistant coach at Canyon High School. Lombard’s Lady Hawks were 32-2 last season and lost in the state championship game. Lombard led the Wall girls to their only two state titles in school history in 2014 and 2016. Tate will join his dad, Joe Lombard, who’s won over 1,300 games at Canyon and won 19 state titles…..Veribest ISD has hired Andrew Spencer as the new girls basketball coach. Spencer comes to Veribest after a season as an assistant coach at Fort Bend Marshall in Missouri City. Spencer replaces Jim Eubank who led Veribest to their best season all-time…..Manuel Gamboa is leaving Robert Lee to coach at Eden. Gamboa coached boys basketball and led the Steers to the regional quarterfinals before they were knocked out by Eden. Gamboa joins former Robert Lee football coach, Shay Avants, who will coach at Eden.

Angelo State Baseball Rallies to Win Regional

With their backs up against the wall, Angelo State Rams baseball won back to back games over Rogers State to win the South Central region two championship and advance to Super Regionals. After ASU won their first game over Lubbock Christian 6-1, the Rams lost to Rogers State on Friday night 9-8. The Rams answered back on Saturday with a 13-6 victory over Rogers State and followed that up with a 19-10 win Saturday night to seal the regional title. ASU was down 10-5 before scoring 14 unanswered runs. Angelo State, who’s 45-10, on the season, will face Colorado Mesa who’s 48-9 in a best of three Super Regional series in San Angelo this weekend. The winner of this series will go to the Division II College World Series. Angelo State and Colorado Mesa are the winningest teams in Division II this season.

Wall and Mason Baseball Advance to Regional Semifinals

From the HS baseball playoffs, the #1 ranked and undefeated Wall Hawks swept the Alpine Bucks in back to back playoff games in the regional quarterfinals. Wall advances to the regional semifinals to face Breckenridge. Wall, who’s 33-0 this season, trailed by four runs in the first game but won 19-11 and won the second game 16-4 after a 13-run first inning. Wall’s next opponent, Breckenridge, is 32-3 on the year. Game one will be Friday at 1pm at Abilene Christian University and game two on Saturday at 3:30pm….the Mason baseball team advanced to regional semifinals after sweeping Bracketville. Mason will face Dallardsville Big Sandy next.

Central Swimming Coach Named National Coach of the Year

San Angelo Central head swimming coach, David Hague, was named the national boys swimming coach of the year by the national high school coaches association. Hague is retiring after 41 years of leading the Central swimming program. Hague guided the Central boys to 20 district titles and the Lady Cats won 13 district titles under Hague’s tenure. Three years ago, Hague was named 6A coach of the year in boys swimming in Texas….Water Valley head football Keith Woolf has resigned after two years at Water Valley and 23 years of coaching. Woolf is getting out of coaching to go into the private sector
