The Central Bobcats will face another tough opponent on Friday night, this time a top ten ranked team in 5A football, Amarillo Tascosa. The Bobcats and Tascosa play at 7pm on Friday from Buffalo Stadium in Canyon. Tascosa is #9 in the state in class 5A division 1. Tascosa won by 19 points over Odessa Permian and Abilene High and has a three-point loss versus Midland Legacy. Tascosa runs the triple option and will run the ball about 80% of the time. Angelo State Rams football is off to a great start and fans should be in store for a treat on Saturday when #14 Angelo State battles #20 Midwestern State at 6pm at ASU. This is the Rams’ home opener, the first of five home games for the Rams. ASU has been stout running the football, second in the LSC in rushing yards and QB Zack Bronkhorst is second in the conference in total offense. Midwestern, coming off an upset win over Texas A&M-Commerce, is led by their QB who transferred from Arizona State, Dillon Sterling-Cole. The Panama Women's National Team is getting ready for the start of World Cup Qualifying in November, and Angelo State soccer player Gabby Villagrand has been asked to play with the Panama national team again in two matches against Costa Rica on September 18th and 21st.
Villagrand has previously made four appearances for Panama, scoring her first international goal against the Dominican Republic on July 10th in a 5-0 victory for Panama.
After a 24 point comeback by Angelo State over Chadron State, the Rams jumped up five spots to #17 in the nation in the new AFCA coaches poll for Division 2 football. The Rams are the highest ranked team in the national poll from the Lone Star Conference. Texas A&M-Commerce was in the top 10 but fell to #21 after a 31-30 loss to Midwestern State. Speaking of Midwestern, the Mustangs are also now ranked at #20 in the country and the Rams play their home opener this Saturday night at 6pm versus Midwestern State…..Angelo State soccer player Avery McNeme was named the Lone Star Conference offensive player of the week after scoring two goals and had three assists last week. ASU soccer is 4-0 and host New Mexico Highlands.
