In HS girls basketball from the regional quarterfinals, the #1 Wall Lady Hawks squeaked by #8 ranked Shallowater 47-43. Sawyer Lloyd sealed the game with two freethrows with 1.4 seconds left and the Wall girls will play Brock on Friday night at 6pm from the regional 1-3A tournament at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. Wall is two wins away from going to the state tournament….the Christoval Lady Cougars are headed to the regional tournament following a 50-33 win over Seagraves. Christoval marched out to a 32-11 halftime lead and cruised to their 25th win. The Lady Cougars have won 17 of their last 18 games and will play #5 ranked Panhandle on Friday in the Region 1-2A tournament from the Texan Dome in Levelland. The game will start at 1pm…..the Eden Lady Bulldogs lost in the regional quarterfinals to #10 Rankin, 66-45. The Lady Bulldogs finished their season with a 23-8 record.
The Lake View Chiefs basketball played just their second playoff game in the last 20 years but the Graham Steers pulled away in a 77-44 b-district win over Lake View. The Chiefs were only down 12 at halftime. The Chiefs finish the season 14-20…..In other boys action, the #11 Wall Hawks blew out Anthony 73-27 in the opening round. It is the 30th win of the season for Wall who will play Abernathy in the area round on Friday at 7pm in Lamesa. TLCA trailed most of the night but rallied in the fourth quarter and beat Kermit 57-48. TLCA will face Spearman on Friday in the area round. The Veribest-Menard game was delayed by a power outage in Coleman but once the lights came on, the Veribest boys defeated Menard 52-44. The Falcons advance to play Fort Davis in the second round. Christoval’s game versus Albany was moved last minute to Bangs due to the power outage in Coleman and Christoval lost to Albany 46-43. Alpine ended Ballinger’s season 65-37; Robert Lee won on their home court over Panther Creek 75-41 and the Steers will play Sanderson on Friday from Iraan.
The historical record-breaking season continued last night for the Veribest Lady Falcons. Veribest outlasted their district rival, #25 Blackwell 34-29 in the regional quarterfinals at Junell Center. For the first time in school history, the Veribest girls are headed to the UIL regional tournament and need only two more wins to go to the state tournament. Veribest is now 23-6 and will play either Hermleigh or Patton Springs in the regional semifinals on Friday from Abilene Christian University
After playing three games in four days, Central Bobcats basketball qualified for the playoffs but faced the #3 team in the state, North Crowley, and the Panthers were too much for the Bobcats in a 88-57 North Crowley win from Eastland. North Crowley started off the game on a 12-0 run and led 43-17 at the half. The Bobcats were led by their backcourt as Dev Minix and Tristan Lopez each had 15 points. The Bobcats finish the season with an 18-15 record and their first post-season appearance in four years. North Crowley improves to 33-3
