The #2 ranked Angelo State Rams hit the road starting today for a four-game series at Tarleton State in Stephenville. The Rams play today at 3pm, a doubleheader tomorrow at 1pm and the series finale on Saturday at 1pm. The Rams are 34-7 and lead the LSC standings by three games. If the season ended today, the Angelo State softball team would make the NCAA tournament. The NCAA released their first regional rankings, and the Rambelles are seventh in the South Central region. The top eight teams go to the NCAA regional. The top five ranked teams are from the LSC with Texas A&M-Kingsville at #1. ASU softball will play their final LSC series at Western New Mexico starting today with a doubleheader at 1pm.
The Central softball team is on the verge of a possible playoff berth after a big 6-2 win last night at Fort Worth Richland. Ashton McMillan went 4 for 4 with a home run. The Lady Cats improve to 5-6 in district and need to win their season finale versus Fort Worth Haltom on Thursday. If Central beats Haltom, and Euless Trinity loses twice this week, the Lady Cats are in the postseason. If Central and Trinity finish tied for fourth, they’ll have a play-in game……Other softball games from last night, Brady edged Grape Creek 8-7. Brady finishes third and Grape Creek will be the #4 seed for the post-season next week. Ballinger clinched second place with a 23-0 win over TLCA
Angelo State Rams Football team released their schedule for the 2019 season. The Rams open up their season on a Thursday night at home on September 5th when Angelo State host Western Oregon at 6pm. The following weekend, the Rams host Simon Fraser, a Division II school from Vancouver in Canada. ASU opens up LSC play on September 21st at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Angelo State will play a total of six home games this season with the season finale at home on November 16th against Texas A&M-Commerce. The Rams are coming off back to back Heart of Texas bowl game appearances and finished 6-6 last season. The Rams are wrapping up spring practice with their annual spring at LeGrand Stadium this Saturday, at 11 a.m. It’s free admission and food will be served by H-E-B outside of the entry gate following the game.
