The Angelo State athletic training staff was honored by their peers and received the annual Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year award. Angelo State has been named the LSC athletic training staff of the year five times in the 15 years that the Lone Star Conference has handed out the award, all under the guidance of Troy Hill, the Director of Sports Medicine, who leads the Ram and Rambelles athletic training staff
from the US Amateur at Pinehurst in North Carolina, San Angelo Central alum, Jansen Smith, advanced to match play but lost in the round of 64. Smith, who was seeded 43rd, lost to the #22 seed, Karl Vilips of Australia and Vilips moves on to the round of 32. Smith will play golf again at Texas Tech this fall, his sophomore season.
Season tickets go on sale today for the general public at San Angelo ISD for both Central and Lake View football games. Tickets are on sale for the next two weeks. The Chiefs and Bobcats will each play five home games this season. Find out more info about season tickets at saisd.org or go by the SAISD administration building at 1621 University, opened 8am-5pm.
Over the weekend, the San Angelo Central volleyball team finished in third place in the championship bracket at the Duncanville Tournament of champions. The Lady Cats went 4-2 in the tournament and beat Irving Nimitz in the third place match. The Lady Cats host Lubbock Coronado tomorrow. At the Bev Ball Classic in Abilene, Lake View lost four matches. The Maidens visit Odessa Permian tomorrow. TLCA volleyball made it to the championship match of Falcon Fest but lost in the championship and finished second. Veribest finished third in the same tourney. Bronte lost to Breckenridge in the championship match at the Albany tourney.
The Lake View Athletic booster club is hosting a big event on Saturday, August 17th to benefit Lake View athletics. Lake View is not hosting a football scrimmage in the pre-season so the LV booster club will have a different spin. First, there will be a kickball tournament at Lake View Stadium on August 17th. It’s $100 per team with a max of ten players per team starting at 8am. Also on Saturday, August 17th at Lake View Stadium, there will be a BBQ cookoff to benefit Lake View athletics. You can enter barbecue ribs, chicken, beans, poppers or anything on a stick beginning at 7am.
